Abstract: The antiwear, friction reducing, antioxidation and corrosive properties of additives and their formulation were evaluated by four ball test, rotary bomb oxidation test, hot oil oxidation test and copper corrosion test. The results show that ME exhibits better synergistic antiwear and friction reducing properties with T 202 and T 203,respectively and has good synergistic antioxidation properties with DODPA. During oxidative degradation, lubricants containing ME possess good durability of antiwear and friction reducing capabilities, and have not produced corrosive tendency towards copper, compared with MoDDP and MoDTC in copper corrosion test. Consequently, Sulfur- and phosphorus-free organic molybdenum compounds can provide novel technical route to reduce contents of sulfur and phosphorus in engine oils, and improve effectively lubrication of oils.
