Abstract: The relationship of solvent aromaticity and asphaltene stability of Saudi light AR in RICP technology was studied by Flory-Huggins model and the aromaticity of the solvent was correlated with the solubility parameter. The results proved the availability of Flory-Huggins model for measuring asphaltene stability in residue. The aspaltene stability increased with the increase of solvent/AR ratio. The aromaticity could be evaluated by solubility parameter. The solvent with higher density and lower molar ratio of H/C possessed higher solubility parameter and is beneficial to asphaltene stability.

Key words: solubility parameter, aromaticity, Flory-Huggins model, asphaltene stability.
