Abstract: Broadening the final distillation point of straight-run kerosene is an important way to increase jet fuel production. However, the broadened fraction has higher content in sulfur and nitrogen, lower smoke point and higher freezing point. The hydrofining test showed that the high reaction temperature and low space velocity under low pressure are favor to removal nitrogen compounds, but not for saybolt color of the product. A new low pressure hydrofining process was developed to process the broadened SR fraction. The results indicated that the new process has a better performance for improving the color of jet fuel product, compared with the conventional process.

Key words: hydrodenitrogenation, jet fuel, Saybolt color
