Abstract: Aiming at the problems of high acid number, deep color, bad oxidation stability and electric properties, and increasing power consumption of transformer insulating oil caused by high temperature oxidation and high voltage electric field, the direct hydrogenation regeneration of used transformer insulating oil(UTIO) was studied by using a self-made Ni-Mo-W regeneration catalyst, and the effects of the hydrogenation conditions on the properties and composition of UTIO were investigated. The results indicated that after the regeneration of UTIO by direct hydrogenation, the color became lighter, the anti-oxidation stability increased, and electricity properties improved, the metal, polychlorinated biphenyls and antioxidant content could not be detected, and the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons decreased. The optimum hydrogenation conditions were as follows: reaction pressure 4.0 MPa, space velocity 2-3 h-1, reaction temperature 220-260 ℃, and the hydrogen/oil volume ratio 300-500. The hydrogenated oil could meet the requirements of transformer insulating oils, which revealed that the catalyst had high selectivity and catalytic performance.
