Using various templates, triethylamine (TEA), diethylamine (DEA) and TEA+DEA, SAPO-34 molecular sieve was synthesized, respectively. The test results showed that pure SAPO-34 crystal phase (CHA) could not be formed when using TEA as template, only CHA/AEI intergrowth crystal was formed. When using DEA as template, pure CHA phase was obtained under narrow synthesis conditions. SAPO-34 with pure CHA structure could be easily synthesized when using TEA+DEA mixed template having a DEA/TEA ratio of over 1. The effects of templates on the physicochemical properties and catalytic performance of the obtained products were studied. It was found that with the increase of DEA proportion in the mixed template, the content of silicon in the obtained molecular sieve increased, the specific surface area and pore volume decreased, the crystal size increased, the number of active acid sites decreased and with acid strength weaken. When the obtained SAPO-34 molecular sieve samples were used as catalysts in the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction, it was observed that with the increase of DEA proportion in the mixed template, the ethylene yield decreased, propylene yield increased, and the selectivity of C2=+C3= increased gradually.

The nickel distribution of residue feedstock and products obtained from fixed bed reactor were studied and focused on the effect of reaction temperature and various hydrotreating catalysts. Results showed that the nickel content of residue feedstock was reduced significantly after hydrotreatment; the nickel compounds were mainly removed by the guard catalyst and de-metallization catalyst. During the processes of HDS and HDN nickel removal was relatively less. Nickel removal was accelerated by the increase of treatment temperature in all the four process stages.

TiO2-Al2O3 complex support was prepared by modified sol-gel method and the influence of this complex support on the performance of MoP/TiO2-Al2O3 catalyst in hydrodesulfurization (HDS) was studied. The effects of different templates (dodecylamine and CTAB) and the dosage of template on the properties of the prepared complex support including crystal structure, specific surface area, pore structure, as well as catalytic performance were investigated. Results showed that templates affected the pore structure of the meso-porous complex support: smaller pore size and narrow pore size distributions were observed for sample prepared without template; sample prepared using dodecylamine as template exhibited larger pore volume, wider pore size and better pore size distributions than that of sample prepared with CTAB, which indicated that dodecylamine was effective on broadening pore size of the complex support. The TiO2-Al2O3 complex support having optimal specific surface area, pore volume and pore size could be obtained by using dodecylamine as template and with a mole ratio of dodecylamine to Al(NO3)3.9H2O of 0.5, and the catalyst prepared by said support exhibited the best HDS activity.

ZSM-5 zeolite was synthesized by hydrothermal crystallization method in an amine-free system to study the effect of synthesis conditions on the zeolite properties. The obtained samples were characterized by XRD and N2 adsorption techniques. Results showed that the optimal crystallization time was varied with the crystallization temperature: higher crystallization temperature resulted in less crystallization time. Good quality ZSM-5 zeolite sample could be obtained with a system pH value in the range of 9.5-10.5. In addition, other factors, such as the initial system Si/Al ratio, the amount of crystal seed used and the feed temperature of silicon source also had significant influence on the quality of ZSM-5 zeolite.

A series of deasphalting experiments using n-pentane as solvent were carried out in a two-stage continuous solvent-deasphalting pilot plant based on the supercritical fluid extraction and fractionation (SFEF) experiments. The influence of pressure and temperature on the yields and properties of deasphalted oil (DAO) was discussed and the removal rates of CCR and metal impurity were calculated. Correlation formulas using SFEF results to predict the contents of CCR and Ni of the continuous solvent-deasphalting DAO were proposed. Results showed that when the yields of light DAO and total DAO were 52.2% and 84.7%, respectively, the removal rates of CCR and metal impurity reached 60.0% and 99.5%, respectively. In light DAO, the contents of total metals and CCR were 8.7 μg/g and 4.49%, respectively, it was a good FCC feedstock. The heavy DAO could be used as hydrocracking feedstock.

The first commercial application of PS-VII catalyst developed by Research Institute of Petroleum Processing was carried out in the 1.39Mt/a continuous catalyst regeneration (CCR) reforming unit of Yangzi Petrochemical Company. The results of performance test and commercial run showed that PS-VII catalyst exhibited high attrition resistant and good hydrothermal stability. As compared with the original imported catalyst, using PS-VII catalyst even with a poorer feedstock, the yields of C6+, hydrogen and aromatics increased 3.32, 0.61 and 1.53 percentage points, respectively; at the same time the coke deposition rate reduced 27.32%. Thus, the problem of insufficient regeneration capacity was solved and the unit could be run under high load for a long period.

The optimum process conditions were obtained, i.e. a feed diene number of about 10 gI/100g, a reactor inlet temperature of 45℃ and a total liquid space velocity of 22 h-1. Furthermore, mathematic models related with the hydrogenation rate of conjugated diene and adiabatic temperature rise were discussed, and the calculated results were in good agreement with the experimental data.

The removal of calcium from crude oil processed in Khartoum Refinery Company in Sudan was studied using novel decalcium agent JCM2004RPD and demulsifier JC2004RP developed by Research Institute of Petroleum Processing. The effect of water injection rate, decalcium agent dosage and distribution mood on the calcium removal rate was investigated by laboratory batch tests and continuous experiments. The commercial trial was carried out in Khartoum Refinery and the results showed that the applied two agents were effective to the removal of calcium and iron from viscous crude oil with high calcium content and acid number, and also effective to demulsification. After three-stage desalting with a mass ratio of decalcium agent to calcium of 3.5, the average removal rates of calcium and iron were 93.6% and 67.0%, respectively. The water content in desalted crude oil was less than 0.4%, and the oil content in drain was less than 50 mg/L. The ash content of coke obtained by coking of desalted crude oil was decreased to under the specification, and the corrosion to carbon steel by coker diesel oil and the desalting drain was light.

The determination of conjugated dienes content in gasoline by polarographic method is studied. Using N’N-dimethylformamide containing 0.02 mol•L-1 tetrabutylammonium iodide as supporting electrolyte, when sweeping the gasoline sample at potential range of -2.10V~-2.85V, peaks at -2.45V and -2.80V are observed. It is identified that the peak at -2.45V is styrene or naphthalene, and the peak at -2.80V is conjugated dienes. Using 1,3-pentadiene as standard conjugated diene, the calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 5.0×10-5~3.8×10-4 mol•L-1 for determining the content of conjugated dienes in gasoline, and the correlation coefficient is 0.998 4. As compared with the conventional maleic anhydride method, this method is fast, simple, repeatable, and it can be used to fuel containing alcohol.

The composition and property of any crude oil are too complicated to have an accurate and precise characterization. The adaptability coefficient was defined as the ratio of the maximum potential capability processing a specific type of crude oil to the design distillation (both AD and VD) capability within any specific refinery. The coefficients of various types of crude oil in a specific refining unit were estimated by ASPEN PIMS model to quantitatively compare the variation of processing performance and crude oil property. It was concluded that the average adaptability coefficient of said refinery should be controlled in the range of 0.60~0.80 to maximize margin. It was found that the more comprehensive units the refinery has and the lower product quality standards required by the refinery, the higher the adaptability coefficient of crude oil and vice versa.
